James Lowder’s publications include the bestselling, widely translated dark fantasy novels Prince of Lies and Knight of the Black Rose; short fiction for such anthologies as Shadows Over Baker Street and Super Stories of Heroes & Villains; tabletop game design for TSR, White Wolf, and Steve Jackson Games; as well as film reviews, critical essays about pop culture, and comic book scripts for publishers including Image, DC, and Moonstone.
On the other side of the desk, he has served as executive editor for Green Knight and Chaosium, as well as fiction series editor for the Forgotten Realms, Ravenloft, and City of Heroes lines. Lowder has helmed more than a dozen critically acclaimed anthologies, including Hobby Games: The 100 Best, The Munchkin Book, Curse of the Full Moon, and Beyond the Wall.
His work has received five Origins Awards and two ENnie Awards, and been a finalist for the International Horror Guild Award, the Dragon Award, and the Stoker Award. His annual holiday Games to Gift segment has aired on Milwaukee Public Radio since 2010. He served as a werewolf lore expert for an episode of William Shatner’s Weird or What?, as a commentator for the D&D documentary The Dreams in Gary’s Basement, and as a puppeteer for the low-budget zombie horror–musical Misfit Heights.
Lowder’s most recent credits include editorial direction for the Planet of the Apes RPG line, scenario design for the anniversary edition of the Cats of Catthulhu RPG, and fiction for the World Fantasy Award-nominated anthology The Dagon Collection.
